Fraunhofer ISE to open solar energy research center in Chile

Chile’s Ministry of Energy has agreed to support Germany-based Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE’s plan to build a solar energy research in Chile. The project is part of the government’s »Atracción de Centros de Excelencia Internacional en I+D« initiative, which aims to attract international R&D organizations to the country. According to the ministry, the new research center will focus on how to best take advantage of Chile’s enormous solar potential, especially the potential of its northern regions. The Atacama Desert, located in northern Chile, has one of the world’s highest levels of solar irradiation.
